Stand out from the crowd by applying circular economy in Portugal, in your architecture project
We practice circular economy in Portugal as the main strategy to promote sustainable architecture and ecodesign.
We carry out architectural projects through the reuse of materials, waste, abandoned public or industrial buildings and spaces.
STEP 1: GET IN TOUCH
2: TELL US ABOUT YOUR IDEA
3: GET A CIRCULAR AND INNOVATIVE PROJECT
Would you like to realize an architecture project focused on circular economy in Portugal, but don't know how?
At the height of the climate and environmental crisis, it is urgent to promote the adoption of sustainable strategies, especially in the architecture and construction sectors, to contribute to the protection of our ecosystem.
One of the main sustainable strategies promoted by Residual studio, a sustainable architecture firm, is the ecodesign and circular economy in Portugal, through the reuse of materials, waste, abandoned public or industrial buildings and spaces.
No architectural project should be considered as the beginning of a linear process (extract-produce-use-discard), but a circular one, a cycle of a continuous use and reuse, creation and recreation. A process in which traditional construction techniques, the uncontrolled and exaggerated use of the Earth's resources and the way we live our cities, are questioned.
Create your innovative space, pioneer in circular economy in Portugal
As an architecture firm specializing in the circular economy, we know that the real innovation of a project is also measured by the way and creativity with which existing materials, buildings and spaces are reconsidered, giving them a new look and a new function, in compliance with the criteria of sustainability and identity of the place.
Thus, Residual studio can help in the realization of architectural projects focused on the circular economy in Portugal, through the reuse strategy, using the potential of the context for the development of circular design.
In this way, you will gain an innovative space, pioneer in the circular economy in Portugal, which will become a reference both for society and environmental issue. In fact, it will have a smaller ecological footprint and carbon emissions.
How to get an architecture project focused on circular economy in Portugal
STEP 1
Get in touch.
STEP 2
Tell us about your project idea.
STEP 3
Make your space sustainable, circular and innovative.
Valorization of local resources
Respect for preexistence
Reuse strategy
Project of interior and exterior spaces
Research for each new project
How do we apply circular economy in Portugal, in architecture projects?
Strategy 1. Offsite reuse
A circular project implies the search and dismantling of reusable materials. Our goal is to develop architecture projects with this type of materials located nearby, to minimize emissions and environmental impacts related to their transport.
Strategy 2. Onsite reuse
Not all wasted materials can be transported out of their context, due to their excessive size and weight, which would significantly increase transport-related costs and emissions. For these cases, different reuse solutions will be investigated, with the aim of creating a circular project applying sustainable strategies on site.
Strategy 3. Full Reuse
Since the demolition process is highly expensive in energy terms, the reuse of an entire abandoned building or space will be encouraged whenever possible, without many transformations, preserving as much as possible all the pre-existing valuable parts.
Strategy 4. Materials Selection
Residual studio uses a decision structure to make the choice of materials simple and clear:
Reusable materials
With reuse, a part of an existing building is reused, whether or not for a different purpose, treated or untreated. Reuse prevents the extraction and production of new building materials and the pollution generated by burning or recycling waste.
Eco-friendly building materials
They are renewable without chemicals or abiotic agents.
Recycled materials
They mostly consist of recycled raw materials.
Traditional materials
When none of the previous options is available. These materials do not provide savings in terms of CO2 emissions or environmental impact. However, they can be reused or recycled.
Strategy 5. Demountable construction
Materials can be reused not just once, but continuously. It is therefore important that buildings and building elements are designed and constructed in such a way that they can be disassembled.
Targeting: Architecture firms
Want to turn your project into a circular one?
By supporting architects, we can use our expertise in sustainability, ecodesign, circular economy and materials to help develop new uses for waste streams in architecture.
We help make reuse feasible within a project, measure the material streams that are used, or we can design entirely new products.
Specializing in sustainability, ecodesign, circular economy and reuse of materials, Residual studio can help any architect to make his/her project circular.
